The jilbab
The Ḥafṣah
A two-piece jilbab, cut for everyday.
A three-quarter jilbab that falls to roughly the knee, and a skirt cut full enough to sit and to kneel in. One cut, made in Birmingham, in whichever cloth you choose.
The sleeve is left open at the wrist, so the cloth falls clear of the hand and lifts away for wuḍūʾ without anything gripping the arm.
It is named for Ḥafṣah bint ʿUmar, who was entrusted with the first written compilation of the Qurʾān. It is also the garment that has been going out of this house for years as the Kanadian — one cut, two names, and the second one is how most of you already know it.
